Finger nails?

Where the hell to they stem from? It is not like they go with rest of your skin. It's not a bone or a muscle. Seriously... How they hell do they form?Finger nails?
they dont stem from anywhere, they grow on top, its just this layer and thats it, and the cuticle supports it a little. If you lose a nail, it grows back on just the way it was before, but it doesnt emerge from cuticle little by little everyday until it reaches the tip of your finger; instead the nail layer reconstructs itself entirely on the nail bed within time. hope this helps. this question was buggin me since i was 5 (im 20 now) finally i got to know the ';truth'; after a friend of mine lost a nail and then it grew back on.Finger nails?
Your nails grow from the matrix, which is at the bottom, where your cuticle is, and that is why your nail grows out instead of growing up, and it all dead cells, the only living part is the, eponychium. and the reason i know all this is because i am a nail technician lol XD
from your cuticles...thats where they grow out of, im pretty sure.

The nail itself are dead cells, that is why they don't hurt when being cut. The only thing alive is the base of the nail. The nail is still dividing and growing pushing the dead cells away.
its only the calcium
from the nail bed

its made from the same thing as your hair- keratin
They're dead skill cells XD

Think of your fingertips as an asshole.
