How to stop biting my finger nails and cracking my knuckles?

I have two very bad habits (in my opinion). I know there's worse habits out there, but I cannot stop cracking my knuckles and biting my finger nails, and I know that these things annoying people around me just as much as they annoy me. Any ideas or suggestions on how i can get myself to stop? How to stop biting my finger nails and cracking my knuckles?
gross yourself out about something fingernail related. like... think of how much dirt and how many germs and crap are under your nails... and also realize how biting your nails upps your risk of getting sick by like 50 percent. Thats what got me to stop... but its harder if you're a smoker or something i would imagine since you already have an oral fixation.

about cracking your knuckles... maybe consider how you're wearing down your cartilage and eventually it will cause arthritis.

worst case scenario about the nails... coat them with something that tastes really bad.How to stop biting my finger nails and cracking my knuckles?
I had the same issues and I basically resolved the problems by sitting on my hands whenever I could which was any time I wasn't using them. If I was using my hands then I wasn't biting or cracking them so every other time, I would sit on my hands. It got so annoying to keep sitting on my hands that the habit just eventually (after 2-3 months) disappeared. Good luck!!
Here's an article I wrote about trying to break the habit of nail biting. Maybe it can help you:

yes. have your significant other shock you with a tazer everytime they catch you biting/cracking. you'll stop after 1 or 2 shocks.
put alcohol on your hands. so every time you're tempted, you will taste alcohol in your fingers.

  • Why are my finger nails an orange color after i remove my nail polish?

Today i took off my nail polish( it was a light turquoise color, if that helps) some parts of some of my nails were an orangey color! Can someone explain why this happened, and how i can get the orange off? Oh, and if this helps, my nails are almost always painted. Why are my finger nails an orange color after i remove my nail polish?
That happens with darker color nail polish, it comes off if you soak your nails in lemon juice. :)Why are my finger nails an orange color after i remove my nail polish?
Your nail is just stained from the color of the polish. Mine do it all the time. You can soak your nails in pure acetone (a big bottle is about $2 at walmart) for a few minutes then use a 7 in 1 buffer over them. After that the color should go back to normal. I would just wait a few days before putting on more polish.
Haha(: thats happened to me to. But dont worry, its nothing badd(: it just means that ur nails are stained by the previous nail polish color you used, and the type of nail polish remover you may of used, isnt that good. But it will go away.
Your nails have turned orange because of the die in your nail polish yes it will stop try to use clearer Colors to stop this. or just use a good base coat by rimmel or colection 2000 they can help the discolouration of your nails .

    HAPPY NAIL PAINTING :)
Its because you haven't used a base coat and the paint has stained your nails. It will grow out. Use base coat in future.

How long do finger nails grow in one week?

My finger nail just broke all the way and my nails are all long because they grow fast. How long do you think it will grow in just one week? How long do finger nails grow in one week?
well I'm not exactly sure how long but i do think its something like 1 mm in two weeks time but you could always buy different products to help make them stronger once they do grow so it can help prevent the nails from breaking and splitting i use to have the same problem my nails would always grow to the length i would want them and then break :(

but i hope this helpsHow long do finger nails grow in one week?
well, it varies between each person. If the broken nail is of your dominant hand it should grow pretty fast. Eat/drink lots of things that contain calcium such as milk, cheeses, meat, sea food, and things that contain potassium and drink a lot of water(not too much, though) and it should make it grow faster!!
They grow .8 cm in a month. SO in a week I'm guessing 2 mm.

What causes the skin around finger nails to lift away from the nails?

Is it to do with vitamins? What causes the skin around finger nails to lift away from the nails?
It can be to do with vitamins definitley, buy some multivitamins with minerals and take one every day. I personally recommend taking 1000mg vitamin C per day you can get it in chewable yummy form. Since i've been doing that my life has been transformed in terms of health.

Also make sure you are moisturising plenty. What causes the skin around finger nails to lift away from the nails?
i belive it has to do with potasium.
    It could be from vitamins...

Lets seeeeee... Hmm... Do you bite your nails?

That could be the problem if you do. Do you get haingnails often? Biting on your nails can also lead to that.

If you dont, it might have something to do with you not getting enough vitamin E...

    Turpentine / paint remover.

    Or paint over them.
    hi

you can use clear or pale pink nail polish just paint on thickly and wipe off straight away but pretty firmly.

do this one nail at a time so it doesnt give it time to dry.

i do it all the time!

    enjoy your wedding!
ACETONE!!! A gallon costs about 8 bucks at Home Depot
    Try scraping the thing off
    OMG what a dilemma!

    Try kerosene %26amp; a lighter.
You can buff it off with a fine-grit emery board/nail file. I do this sometimes when there are bits that don't come off.
Try paint thinner or paint remover. You can get them at Lowe's, Home Depot.
    scratch it off slowly!

    Finger Nails?

I hate having very short finger nails so I am going to go get them done but I am not sure if I want Gels or Acrylics.

    I have a few questions:

Which is better for my nails, how long between fill-ins, which (generally) costs more and over all which should i go with?

    Thanks for your help!Finger Nails?
I think acrylics are much better for you. Gels cost a lot more and can break easier. No nail procedure is good for your nails, because when they prep your nails by ';roughing it up,'; they are taking off the first layer of your nail. (Don't worry, it won't hurt, I promise.)

Generally, if you want nails that look good all the time, I would suggest a fill or balance every 2 weeks, depending on how fast your nails grow. Some people could get a way with not filling their nails for 3 weeks, but I wouldn't push it any longer. Just make sure to keep up with the fills, because if you wait too long and the acrylics lift, there might be potential for fungus when water is trapped between the acrylics and your natural nail bed.

If you like to wear color, just go with the regular acrylics. But if you like the look of a french tip, go with pink and white. Every store has a certain way of applying the pink and white procedure. How we do it is applying a white tip, putting white powder of the tip, applying the light pink powder over the entire nail (the pink powder is very light pink, it's suppose to resemble the pinkness on your natural nail bed), and when all the procedure is done (filing and so on), applying buffing cream to each nail and buffing it until it's shiny. SO PRETTY THAT WAY. It's way better than using clear polish for the shine. It's so shiny with the buffing cream and you don't have to worry about the shine going away after a certain time. Pink and white cost a little more, but if done right is completely worth it. If you just don't care and just want french, just get regular acrylics and have them airbrush french on ur nails. They'll probably charge you $3-$6 more for the french on top of the regular acrylics. Anything french will cost more.Finger Nails?
i do acrylic all the time. you have them filled every 2 to 4 weeks. they arent that expencive in missouri but i dont know where you are at. i have never done gel cause i dont like change but just call and ask they will be glad to answer any questions that you have cause they want your business
I would say go with acrylics and I have always gone in about every two weeks. Acrylics are generally cheap, just depends on where you go. Where I live we have a lot of nail salons so it is like 25 for full set and then 17 for a fill every two weeks.
I just recently asked around and looked on the net to help

me decide between gel and acrylic nails. The

conclusion I came to, based on literature AND the

advice of experienced (15 years or more) nail

technicians is this: either type will damage your nails

considerably. Acrylic nails cause more damage at first,

but they stay on MUCH better, especially if you live in

areas with a humid climate. Moisture in the

environment causes the gel nails to separate from your

natural nails, so you will have to get them replaced

more often. This causes additional damage. Acrylic

nails resist moisture much better. Either way, the

moisture layer on the top of your natural nail will suffer--

-since fake nails will not stay on if moisture is present.

So, I opted to avoid the fake nails for now. I had them

years ago (acrylic) and it took at least 8 months for my

nails to recover. Whatever you decide find one that cleans their equipment. I got a nasty fungla infection that took a whole year to go away. NOT FUN!!
Acrylics look nice and stay on good. I honestly dont think they are worth it though, especially if your nails grow fast and like you have to spend 20 bucks to get them filled in.
Definitely go with the gel because Acrylic is a mess, girl...

and when your nails start to grow, start to move away from the gel and get manicures regularly.
