How do I Stop Biting may Finger Nails?

I need to not bite them for my job.How do I Stop Biting may Finger Nails?
1.Wrap an Ace bandage around the elbow, making it difficult, but not impossible, to move your hand to your mouth.

2.Buy non-toxic gels/liquid which you can put on your finger nails so that when you go to bite your nails, you'll get a bad taste. After a few times, you'll get the hint not to do it anymore.

3.Give yourself a reward for quitting. Say you'll buy yourself something nice, get yourself a pet, whatever. It may sound childish, but when a reward is involved, anyone will hop to it.

4.Tap yourself with a bamboo stick whenever you feel you're going in for the bite. Don't hurt yourself, just make it known to yourself that it's not a good idea. Alternatively, wear an elastic band loosely around your wrist. When you get the urge to nibble, give yourself a snap!

5.Keep your hands busy. Take up a hobby which will keep your hands preoccupied.

6.Wear gloves - if all else fails.

7.Another alternative paint your nails... with nail polish (duh!) and something in your mind makes you NOT want to bite your nails.

Try it and you'll have gorgeous nails in no time!

8.Men (and women, but especially men) who bite their nails can benefit from using ';hard-as-steel-strengthening'; or ';miracle-grow'; brush-on nail treatments. These thicken and strengthen the nail so much that it's hard to bite the nail off. They're clear, too, so no one will question your masculinity.

9.If you find yourself slipping and biting a nail, accept the fact that you're human and that you're in the process of stopping. Praise yourself for the length of time you went without biting your nails and see if you can break the record next time. How do I Stop Biting may Finger Nails?
Paint them with Tabasco sauce, or something bitter. You can also put a rubber-band around your wrist, and snap it everytime you catch yourself biting your nails.
you get a special nailpolish which tastes really bitter to dissuade you. Otherwise try rubbing green chilli on the tips of your fingers.
Soak them in something that tastes bad....
You could try just allowing yourself to bite the thumb nails and leave the others. Thumb nails don't need to be long anyway, and at least if you have the urge to bite a nail you don't have to resort to biting the nails you're trying to save.

After a while make it a habit of keeping strong-smelling hand-cream on your hands. That will be probably discourage your biting even the thumb nails.
What is the job? I mean I can understand if you're dealing with fecal samples or something, but otherwise will it really hurt?
Take a jalapeno and rub it into your nails! One taste of the and you Will remember!
Be conscious that you are biting your fingernail. If this will not work, use mittens.

My daughter is getting a green infection under her finger nails?

My daughter is 3 years old. In june said she slammed her finger in a door, though she never complained of it. Ine day we noticed her finger nail swollen, green and black with puss oozing out of it. It only got worse. We went to the doctor and he burned a hole in it and the nail fell off. Well, now shes getting the same thing again! Its covered 1/3 of her nail on one finger and on another hand she has it starting and its the size of the tip of a pen. Her doctor insists she has had trauma or a splinter and to let it work its way out. But, if it just spreads how will it work its way out? I am scared that my daughters finger nails will fall off one by one. Any advice would be great. I also have picutes I can e-mail.My daughter is getting a green infection under her finger nails?
the doctor is right my brother slammed the door shut on my finger once it bleeds then turned purplish green and then it will grow out dont worry i would suggest putting antibotic cream and a bandaid on it for cosmetic and medical purposes

OK question every time i start to grow my finger nails they curve under.why? so i always just keep them short.

thanks everyoneOK question every time i start to grow my finger nails they curve under.why? so i always just keep them short.
I dont know what it is, i have the same problem but mine curl upwards, i do let them grow a little but not to long! When you find out let me no lol! Good Luck!!!OK question every time i start to grow my finger nails they curve under.why? so i always just keep them short.
Nature designed them for digging, scratching, delousing, and all the other things primates do. Nature keeps them short through wear and tear.
Do your mothers or grandmothers do that? Usually it is genetic and nothing you can do about it.

What are some good ways to have healthy longer finger nails?

My nails used to be crappy but now they are really fantastic.

First of all kick any nail biting habits you have, buy some bitter tasting nail polish which you can get from most pharmacies (drugstores) and within a fortnight you should have stopped biting your nails, although it makes it difficult to eat stuff with your hands like sandwhiches. Play with a ball of putty or blutack to keep your hands busy so you don't pick at your nails or bite them.

Drink plenty of milk, whether its on your cereal or in tea as this stops white marks on your nails from lack of calcium. Try to avoid trimming your nails unless you break one until they are the desired length.

File your nails so they have straight rounded edges and aren't uneven.

Buy a finger nail brush so under your nails are clean and dirt free, first rub the brush bristles on a bar of soap then scrub under your nails, then soak the bristles in warm water and scrub again. If you have weak nails buy some strengthening nail polish, and to make them look really healthy I use clear nail polish because it makes them look nice and shiney.

You can also have a french manicure if you like them but I suggest you get it done at a manicurist or get a friend who is good at them to do it.What are some good ways to have healthy longer finger nails?
I have really strong nails and my hair and nails grow super fast. I attribute it partly to genetics (my mom is the same way) and partly to the fact that my calcium intake is more than sufficient.

I cut my nails twice a week since I keep them short for work. I nibble at them occaisionally, I don't paint them with anything (also for work), I buff them to make them shiny. What are some good ways to have healthy longer finger nails?
prenatal vitamins. Not only do they have lots of healthy nutrients like a regular multivitamin, they make your hair and nails grow fast and be healthier and they're a heck of a lot cheaper than special supplements from GNC and such
drink milk

when u squeeze the lemon squeeze ur nails into the outer layerof the lemon

dont put too much nail polish because the nail polish remover removes a thin layer from ur nails causing them to be thinner
i have a nail polish which makes your nails healthy and stronger :)

they sell them everywhere really, just gotta look!

or... you can get vitamins which make your nails + hair healthy and longer :)
Don't bite them trimn them as they get long. Clean them and take vitamins.

Can you paint your right finger nails with your left hand?

If you can tell me please! Can you paint your right finger nails with your left hand?
Yes I can. I balance my left hand on something steady like the table and go slowly and carefully. The more you do it the better you get at it.Can you paint your right finger nails with your left hand?
Yes I can, but it clearly is harder. You just have to be really careful and do it very slow. You'll get better with practice.
Yes I can, but it has taken me at least 5 years to get it to look nice. It takes practice
yep

but u have to do it slowly and carefully
Nope. Hence the reason my fingernails are never painted.
yupp.

i have mastered the art of paintng my rite hand!
yea, just go carefully
I actually have to slop it on and let it dry. I then make it neat and clean the nail polish on my skin with a qtip and nail polish remover.
I can quite perfectly, seeing as though I'm left handed. Not everyone is right handed, I think you should change the question. It's writing hand discriminatory.

No, I'm just being stupid.
I can

coz m left handed XD
Yeah you can. You have to go very slow though. But it can be hard for the first couple of tries.
Yes I can as a matter of fact. Perfectly i might add
Nope, which explains that lovely effect on my right hand that always looks like a psychotic mass murderer was rampaging on my right hand :P

Seriously, I can do my left no problem, end up either wearing clear or get a friend or my mom to help me.
YEAH BUT I HAVE TO GO A LOT SLOWER I LEAVE IT TO THE PROFESSIONALS NOW THOUGH
Yes I can, and I am right handed and I do a very good job at it. As does everyone I know.
Yes. I'm a lefty.
yes, you can. [i can] you just real slowly and take your time.
i can but sometimes it doesnt turn out very well.

so i just ask my mom to do it for me.
Well you can't do it with your right hand can you.

Though most women I know use a brush to do it
yes! i'm right handed, but my nails always come out better when painted with my left hand...
Yes and I write with my right hand. It's not much different. Although, since I'm mixed handed, I do different things with each hand.
Yes, very carefully. The more you do it, the easier it gets!
I assume this is because you are right handed?

I am right handed. I can paint my right finger nails with my left hand by going very slowly. Not using too much polish at one time. And mainly moving my right hand slowly away from the brush.

I find that easiest and cleanest.
Yes. Due to me breaking my right arm, and therefore learning how to cope with just my left hand.

I can write left handed now as well.

  • I want to ask the parents of a little boy in my care to trim his finger nails. How do I phrase it nicely?

Because what I want to say is, ';Can you trim his nails so he doesn't scratch anybody and so that it makes hand-washing time easier?'; But it seems like a delicate thing to ask someone to parent their own kids. Advice?I want to ask the parents of a little boy in my care to trim his finger nails. How do I phrase it nicely?
It is a delicate subject, but it needs to be done. Maybe you could say ';can you trim his nails? hes been scratching other children on accident'; I wouldn't mention handwashing time, because they may take that offensively like you're calling him dirty. Another suggestion would be saying '; do you mind if I trim his fingernails so that he doesn't keep scratching the other kids on accident?'; There are always awkward moments that have to be dealt with when working with others. Good LuckI want to ask the parents of a little boy in my care to trim his finger nails. How do I phrase it nicely?
    just do it urself
That sounds fine to me. It's right to the point. Go for it.
do it your self its not that big a deal i take care of other ppls children all the time and when they need things like that done i do it the parents usually are so busy working and every thing else they dont notice it!! never cut there hair though lol i never have but i do know a lady that did and it didnt go over well haha
Why don't you just buy a pair of nail trimmers and do it the next time you watch him?
    ';Can you trim his nails so that he doesn't scratch anyone? ';

That sounds perfect to me. I wouldn't be offended at all if someone asked me to trim my kids' nails.
My son is 4. His nails grow so fast I do it at least 2x a month or more. I have to remind myself often. You could just say ';Oh, I made a mental note to remind U ... '; when u mention it to her.

Don't lie or carry on like other people are telling you to say he might or is scratching someone else. It's obvious 'why' he needs them cut. Just let Mom know you happened to notice ... it's that time.
If he's in your care, why can't you just trim them when you have him and let them know what you did and tell them it was because he scratched you accidentely! Problem Solved!!
';oh hey.....scratched me today do you mind if i trim his nails?'; that should let them know they need to be done without stepping on the parents toes.
i have had my daycares tell me i need to trim my sons nails before....i felt bad thatg i had over looked it but i also understood y they needed to say something SO if you don't want to do it yourself just tell em as nice as u can
I have owned a day care in the past and the way I dealt with this situation is .... I would tell the parents that I was afraid _______ would scratch himself when we were waking them up from tv/nap time. It would bring attention to the parents and not make them mad. I let them think it was just to protect their child and didnt mention him scratching any other children or about washing hands. Good Luck
I'm a mom of a four year old and I don't think if you ask the parents to trim is his nails that you are telling them how to parent..maybe the don't realize that they are to long

Any way to get your finger nails to grow quicker?

just wondering if there are any ways to get fingernails to grow quicker?Any way to get your finger nails to grow quicker?
Gelatin tablets. They may not grow a whole lot quicker, but they seem to since they will be stronger and not so apt to break or wear away.Any way to get your finger nails to grow quicker?
路 Drinking milk is good, as it contains calcium

路 Some people advise to take prenatal vitamins for hair and nail growth

路 Proper diet with green leafy vegetables, nuts, dried fruits and fruits would also help nail growth

路 Massage your nails with olive oil.

take biotin pills. they help your skin, nails and hair. they work for me.
    eat jello
At some stores they sell polish that is supposed to promote growth. You can also buy vitamins at a local store like walmart or riteaid and walgreens that help with nail growth

What kind of personality is depicted if a man has long finger nails.?

I mean not very long but visibly long. What kind of personality is depicted if a man has long finger nails.?
i have seen longer nails on a man and i do not like it...it is weird looking and creeps me out.....it just gives me the willies......What kind of personality is depicted if a man has long finger nails.?
I would say either you hygenically don't care, or maybe you play classical guitar.........or both?
I would say a man who has long nails is a man without a job.
It depends-- by itself, you really can't see much. Just a dude with long nails. But if you look at his clothes, how he lives, how he treats people...then you may see the personality appear.
Doesn't do a physical job because their nails are not broken off... but they don't care too much in detail about their looks othrwise they would trim them (but then that's when the whole 'visibly long'; definition comes in... and not a nervous person maybe? (because they don't bite their nails off; however, they can quench their nervousness in other ways, etc).
either fast growing nails, or a man who dont take care to cut it...

that would be 1) healthy 2) lazy

How to get my finger nails to grow back in healthy?

I had taken off acrylic nails some weeks ago and for some reason this time my nails became extremely damaged. I have been getting my nails done for the past 7 or so years, so I don't know where the problem began. I have no fungus, just broken and split nails. They are quite thin and easily tear. They are so weak that they have begun to sometimes split on my actual nail bed. Is there anything I can do to help them grow in thicker and healthier as they used to????How to get my finger nails to grow back in healthy?
that is normal when you get your nails done regulatly. first, stop gettin acrylic nails!! allow yours to go through a healing process. you can try otc prenatal vitamins from the store, they will not harm you and are great for hair and nails. How to get my finger nails to grow back in healthy?
I used this product called Nailtek. It is a miracle!!!!!!!!!!!! And it isn't expensive either. I'm sure you can find it online somewhere. My nails are paper thin and I have never been able to have strong beautiful nails. I have tried many products to help me, but no luck. Ever since I started using Nailtek polish and hand cream my nail are strong and gorgeous!
I have never tried this, but, a lady I used to know, puts clear iodine on her nails [her nails were always very pretty] I always thought they were acryllic, but, she said the iodine helps them grow.
Getting your nails to grow fast is really about taking care of them and keeping them healthy. Nails grow about 1/8 inch per month but what keeps nails from getting long is more about nail damage and poor nail care than about slow growth.

Shape your nails from the outside edge toward the middle, moving the emery board in one direction only rather than sawing it back and forth which damages the nail. Soaking nails in warm, soapy water before pushing cuticles back makes for less scraping on the nail bed (the pink part of the nail).

Condition nails with the same hand cream used on hands.Keeping nail polish on will keep nails from splitting, tearing or cracking. When doing a manicure, choose a nail shape that is wide and more square which is less apt to break, rather than a pointier oval shape. Using an oily nail polish remover will also help.

Eat a balanced diet to prevent vitamin deficiencies that create unhealthy nail conditions such as peeling, splitting or brittle nails. Don't fuss with your nails all the time as over filing can cause weakening and other nail problems.

Apply a strengthening clear polish to your nails regularly, even if you do not usually paint your nails.

Avoid submerging your hands in water if possible. For example, wear rubber gloves when doing dishes.

Calcium always helps. You can get calcium from a multi-vitamin or from a specific calcium supplement. The other thing I've found works REALLY well is gelatin. Gelatin is found in Jello, but in order to get the amount you need to grow long nails.

    =)

Hot pink or anything with holographic shimmer.
my favorite is either checkered (takes a while though) or yellow! Which I'm currently wearing.. aha
i love dark blue. i think it looks really cool on your nails and makes them really pop.
I like using a peach colour. Because it doesn't not go with any outfit colors and it is good for day and night outings.
    natural:Dhehe
anything bright. right now they're orange. :D
    glow in da dark

What does the white specs on your finger nails mean or what causes them?

I'm sure that those white marks are only damages and they are not due to vitamin deficiency or any other things. In our casual life unknowingly our nails are hurt by the edges of things or something like that. But when we notice them we think in an other wayWhat does the white specs on your finger nails mean or what causes them?
This is an indicator that your body has been under stress, (mental or physical) Naturopaths and other health professionals use these spots as a diagnostic tool. For instance last year I had a bout of pneumonia, and almost every nail had a white ring on it in the same spot. Nail observation is becoming more prevalent in western medicine as well. What does the white specs on your finger nails mean or what causes them?
I'm pretty sure it means you are not ingesting enough calcium.
When I was a kid my mom always told me that it meant I told a lie.

I really don't think that is true. Don't see any on there now though.
I had a couple of those- but i dont think they mean anything though
At the point where the white part of the fingernail was being generated, you had some vitamin deficiency, or dehydration, or some other kind of nutrient deficiency.
when I was a kid I had alot of those white spots and my mother told me it was ';sin spots';. Every time I told a white lie I would get a spot on my nails. Boy, did I ever try to get rid of those spots!!! But I think it has to do with a vitamin deficiency.

Can you get diseases from biting your finger nails?

I bite my finger nails a lot and am worried about getting diseases. Can you get diseases from biting your finger nails?
    you could get pinworms.

http://kidshealth.org/kid/ill_injure/sic鈥?/a>Can you get diseases from biting your finger nails?
I dont think you can, unless you bite down so that they bleed, then there is a possibility of an infection, but if not.

If you mean getting a desease because you put your fingers in your mother to bite them, then yes, you probably could, but fingernails are fairly clean parts of your body, the odd of getting infections from that are low
I am sure there are diseases that could be hiding under your finger nails if you have been exposed to them. Remember that our hands touch everything and in a sense everything you touch is going into your mouth. And odds are you are not washing everytime before you bite your nails.
not unless your fingernails have black things on the bottom cuz they are dirty. They might have diseasable dirt that can get into your mouth if you bite your nails. Just make sure to clean your nails daily!

    P.S.

a way to stop biting your nails is putting nail polish on cuz you dont want that getting in your mouth... ewwwwwwww...
You use your fingers to do a lot of things, and if you don't wash your hands, bacteria can build up and grow under your nails, and when you bite them, you can accidentally ingest some of that bacteria which could possibly get you sick.
Sure you can. You use your hands to touch things in your environment. Bacteria and germs can easily got on your skin and nails, and under your nails that can affect you. If you must bite, practice good hand washing techniques.
It is possible to have all sorts of dirt under your nails that you could ingest by biting your nails. Hepatitis and worms are two thing that come to mind.
Nail clippers are most sanitary. Fact.
under the nails there are lots of germs because with a quick wash never cleans enough.
No. Germs yes, If you haven't washed your hands properly.
    i do nothing happens
depends on where your fingers have been. wash your hands regularly

What color finger nail polish looks good on short nails?

bold colours, dark colours, bright colours

pretty much anything except french manicure looks good, although if you nails are like really really short go for something bright it'll make them stand outWhat color finger nail polish looks good on short nails?
A rich, bold color like deep red.

Or a light, flirty color like bubble-gum pink.

Just about any color would look great, really. What color finger nail polish looks good on short nails?
black looks good on short nails and ONLY on short nails

so yuo have an advantage =P
I like very vibrant red !!!!!!!! On the toes also !!!!!!!
    purple :))
i believe none looks better on short nails. Because short nails that are polish looks like a 8 year old fingers, so leave your nails grow and polish it anycolor you want.
Red, pink, or you can use lighter colors too. As long as your nail are neatly filed and manicured, they will look nice with any color.
It depends on your skin tone. If you have that gorgeous, exotic olive skin, then dark sultry colors would look great. But if you are bland white like me, then I'd go with paler colors if I wanted to look classy, or if you want to look 'hip' or whatever or be noticed, then a vibrant red or hot pink would be cute.
light colors tend to look best, unless you have very slender hands and long nail beds. Then you can get away with almost anything.
bubbly pink nails! it is so gorgeous!! it works on any skin tone
i like to use different colors on my nails instead of the average pink or red. my nails are short too so i know what you mean. i went to walgreens ( they have great colors) and picked out all the ones i liked i have black, purple, green, deep blue, orange, and yellow! i usually dont use them together but my friend does and it looks great on her! good luck!
Clear or a soft seashell pink, sheer nude brown/beige. Something neat and not loud.
I would just go with french manicure. I would also consider getting it buffed till it shines on its own.
Well my nails are short right now and i have a nice deep bright blue with a bright yellow. I have got many comments on my fingers all day. To make your nails look longer do a french tip. It make them look very nice. Also do bright colors. I wouldn't say a maroon or a dark purple. Just mix and match.

What my friend does is she picks out like 4 different colors and paints them on a paper.(just a little) and waits like 5 min. for it to dry and she picks the color she likes best.(do shorter leghths since ur nails are short. But when they grow out do longer strokes.

    HOPE I HELPED! =D
pink is usually the color in much cases, you can decide too on where you are going and who you will see and what feels right for that moment. in most cases though a light color i would say, but if it calls the moment, go red
clear whitesh, and shiny that is very classy actually any color that is light and see through like pink.

How do i get my finger nails to row to the ends of my fingers without the white part being so large?

I used to have my nails really short but it hurt too much and now it seems like the white part of my nail starts farther back while growingHow do i get my finger nails to row to the ends of my fingers without the white part being so large?
There is nothing you can do, nail ';beds'; are usually the size they are, period. If you damaged them by biting or cutting your nails too short, time might make them grow bigger. All you can do is do not use anything underneath the free edge to clean them and such, you want to keep from any more damage, and hope for the best.

I do not have Eczema just really dry feet %26amp; hands. Fingers really bad.I have really dry hands really bad around the finger nails %26amp; the same with my feet. Help?
I do have eczema and it is basically the same effect as what you have. This is what I do: Jafra body oil 2 or 3x a day on the effected areas for as long as nessesary. If you use regular lotions they contain alcohol and dry the skin even more. If you can't get jafra then use vaseline. Jafra is just more pleasant to use. It has pretty much cured the eczema problem for me and totally fixed the mess called my feet. i no longer need to scrape or buff or anything. Try this:

How to get lovely long finger nails right in your home?

i want long nails and i dont know how to get them how can i get long nails. How to get lovely long finger nails right in your home?
Firstly cut and file each nail (file sort of straight across giving the nail a square look). It doesn't matter if they are short after this, you need to start from scratch to achieve the correct look.

Then, you need to use a 3 sided nail buffer to make them as smooth as if there is polish on, and then apply a decent moisturiser to the whole hand (including the nail).

Next, use a nail growth product like Sally Hansen. Apply 2 coats and allow to dry in between.

Once they are dry, apply a strengthing polish (Diamond hardness etc). 1 coat should be enough.

You will need to strip the polish off and repeat the process every 2 or 3 days at first (especially if you are using chemicals in your job, doing a lot of sports, or have your hands in water a lot). Don't leave it any longer than 3 days, otherwise the polish will chip and your nails will break as they are not strong enought just yet.

You should see an improvement after a couple of weeks, at which point you can cut back the frequency of the treatment to once or twice a week. How to get lovely long finger nails right in your home?
I'm a nail tech so first advice would be get yourself a manicure kit DO NOT USE A HARDENER OR STRAIGHTENER make sure you use protein and vitamins that will feed a nourish your nail try nails inc products they are the best www.nailsinc.com you should try treatment pack 4 with kensington gardens it has sea kelp to nourish oyster shell to strengthen hope it helps x
    Let them grow!

Don't bite them, or put them in your mouth.

You can even paint them while you wait. Put a base coat (always) and put it on the edge of your nails so they won't rip apart. Then put your color and top coat.

    Good luck %26lt; 3
go to a drugstore and buy a pack of fake nails.. or let your nails grow then use white nailpolish and go over the white already on your nails. then out a clear coat over!

When people are dead, why do their finger nails still grow?

I just don't understand, I was thinking maybe it doesn't need the blood to grow or something I don't know. I mean they're dead how can it still grow? Also, does their hair still grow, and if it does, why? When people are dead, why do their finger nails still grow?
Nothing on your body grows after you die. After death skin dehydrates and shrinks up - think beef jerky or raisins - and anything that protrudes from that skin would appear to be longer even though it's not changed size. When people are dead, why do their finger nails still grow?
actually its cuz of dead cells buddy

the nails don't grow any more once you're dead. However, sometimes the cuticles retract and shrivel some, so the nails look longer.

Hair doesn't grow any more either.

  • What can I take to straighten my finger nails?

my nails have always been brittle%26gt; have tried everything on them, nothing works. Is there some vitamine I can take? What can I take to straighten my finger nails?
There is a vitamin out in Walmart called BIOTIN. I have take it before and see improvements.. If your nails is weak use a clear nail polish called OPI STRENGHTENER (located at your nearest nail salon). Just apply 2 coats.. leave them on for about a week.. take the polish off and let it breath for about a couple of hours. then reapply again. You SHOULD see improvements. If it is not straight.. then file them down to the right size. be sure to sile the corners if you decided to get them square. BIOTIN helps makes nails, hair, and skin healthier... even though you just want nails.. but hey.. its a 3 in 1 deal..=DWhat can I take to straighten my finger nails?
    you mean strengthen? I've never seen nails that weren't ';straight';
i bit my nails for almost 10 years. They still don't go right but they get very thin. I tried this stuff at wal-mart i think its called with a horse or something. I know that sounds weird but i'm pretty sure thats what it says. It did make them stronger.

YES!!! i have gone to competitions that have cut my score in 1/2 because I didn't have any nails. I cant grow nails so I use acrylic it is expensive but it is necessary. You get a much better sound with nails than without. Is it really nessecary to grow your finger nails for classical guitar?
Not really, but it is easier than using finger picks, in my opinion.

But long nails are not a necessity as long as you have slender fingers that you can hit individual strings with, (not like my fat stubby things)! lol

    Good Luck!
On your right hand, yes. Some people use glue-on nails but they're a pain to maintain properly.

Where does the white things at the back of the finger nails come from?

If you look at your nails, where your skin begins, the nail is white right there. why?Where does the white things at the back of the finger nails come from?
If you are talking about the cuticle, it is layers of dead skin that surround the nail. The half-moon shaped ';white thing'; at the back of a fingernail is called the lunula. It lies underneath the nail in the nail bed and only appears white through the nail (it isn't actually white). It defines the free edge of the distal nail plate (the nail that grows outward)Where does the white things at the back of the finger nails come from?
    You mean your cuticles?
Its called the moon of the nail, or the Lunula. You are born with them. Here is an article about your nails and the signs you can find about your health in your nails:

babygirl questionHow can i stop biting my finger nails with no products?
Well you can try putting lemon juice and stuff on it. But that never stopped me ii have yet to stop and it'z been nearly 17 years. LOL i even tried something i was allergic to....no good. Point is some can some cant - Jus dont stress yourself. Good Luck =DHow can i stop biting my finger nails with no products?
dip your fingers in vinegar or lemon juice! it tastes gross so you wont feel the need to bite your nails! either that or chew gum!?
I ;have been through the same thing. I had to tell myself I had to quit so I started eating carrot sticks, holding pencils, etc. to keep hands occupied and not biting. It is a nerve thing with me. I had to calm myself down. Try it. OK.
    i paint my nails black

    and i've stopped biting them

you could just paint them clear because it doesnt show

but thats the only thing that stopped me

    and it kinda involves product!!
Something you can do is wear a rubber band on your wrist and everytime your friends see you biting your nails, they get to snap it.

And also when you catch yourself doing it, you snap it.

Its called ';aversion therapy'; and it is psychologically proven to work for most people. Basically you are training your brain to link the nail-bitig to a form of discomfort. And soon the brain wont do it anymore and you break the habit.
I heard putting nasty stuff on your fingers like lemon juice or vinegar will help u stop, u know like u bite ur nails and then u realize it has vinegar on it and ur like EWWWWWWWWWWW
i know how that goes i still bire my nails when i'm nervous i do that. but like every1 else has said put lemon on it and yea i would do that
figure out what causes you to bit your nails and figure out something Else to do, like draw...Or you can just think about all the little worms that are under you nail that can cause serious health problems.

  • Why are my finger nails getting brittle?

Lately, within the last month, I've been breaking nails constantly. To the point where I'm keeping clippers in my pocket. I'm a 43 year old male. Calcium.

Are fake/ acrylic finger nails tacky, low class and 1997 OR are the passable for being a beauty asset?

I have no time to keep my nails up, and without polish I bite and pick. Thinking about getting short acrylics, but feel a little tacky. What do you think? Are fake/ acrylic finger nails tacky, low class and 1997 OR are the passable for being a beauty asset?
If you want acrylics, go for it! They're a great way to stop biting your nails, you want to keep them super-duper short at first. Depending on the severity of your nail biting you may even want to have them done shorter than your fingertip. They can definitely be a beauty asset!

Be safe when you get acrylics, though. Go to a reputable salon, and ask questions. How do they sanitize the instruments? Do they reuse files? What brand do they use? Some places have unsafe practices so keep your health #1 priority! :)Are fake/ acrylic finger nails tacky, low class and 1997 OR are the passable for being a beauty asset?
i had my nails done about 3 weeks ago and they were acrylic but when i took them of yesterday my nails were weak and thin and hurt and they are to gentle also if you get your nails done to many times or have them on a long time such as a month or two you can get fungus and fungus is really hard to get of and go to walgreens and there is this nail polish that when you put it on you cant bite your nails because its going to taste like pepper and it will keep you from biting your nails and try to paint your nails more they will get stronger and they will look better natural
acrylics are very tacky and so 2000 and late. natural are so 3008. ha i luv that song!

but anyways ya! i bite my nails to but im not ashamed its part of who i am. so go show the world ur torn up nails with a smile.

nailpolish remover works r u sure ur doing right?
you're probably going to want to try rubbing alcohol or any cosmetic dissolvant if that doesnt work...if none of that takes it off it will wear off within a few days ive done it before so dont worry its only permanent for maximum a week
    Cooking oil.
A Mr. Clean magic eraser will work and it isn't scratcy or hard.
rubbing alcohol took it off my table when one of my kids ';decorated'; it, so maybe that will work on finger nails too!
Make sure the nail polish remover has acetone in it. Its the acetone that will remove sharpie ink.
    409
first try wetting ur hands, then try to scratch it off with ur fingernails, then wash again with lots of sop and scrub and rub on your nail to get it off. :D

    good luck.
You might want to try rubbing alcohol. It works for me to get marker anything.
if you didnt try nail polish remover with acatone, tth might work. also this sometimes works, if you paint over it with nail polish then it remove it with nail polish remover or if your patient, just wait a couple of daiiz , it will come off
    Maybe lemon juice or vinegar?
    try rubbing alchohol.
    rubbing alcohol
Coca Cola will do it for sure! that's what I used to take it off my dry erase board. (I accidentally used the wrong marker)
hairspray....it works wonders.....just spray some on a tissue or something and wipe it on ur nails, it always takes sharpie off, next time paint ur nails with black polish
Well, I know that when my kids use black sharpie on the dry-erase board and on my corian kitchen counter, I got it off with rubbing alcohol.

Try that. I've never tried it on fingernails.
rubbing alcohol works wonders with sharpie, got it off my friend's face.
    Aerosol hairspray!
Don't put it on in the first place and rubbing alcohol works preetttyy well!!!!
Were u coloring your nails with a sharpie in class and is it all over you nails if so it will eventually come of try cuticle oil.

What is the perfect length for a hygenic male to keep his nails at?What is the right length for a man's finger nails?
I'd say an eighth of an inch, tops. Don't make them so short that there's no white part, though, that looks obsessive compulsive. Also, make sure they're not too much longer on the sides than in the middle if you have rounded nail beds, but don't go too round either, just a happy medium. I know, a difficult balance to strike. Lol. You could get them done professionally once and then just keep them the way the manicurist did them, they're experts and will give you what looks best. What is the right length for a man's finger nails?
no longer than a milimeter, ha

keep it chopped off, but never go past the nail line so red skin shows up.

idk, that's just what i prefer for guys
    Short and clean. No paint!
    just short.

    1 cm.
go to a nail salon and get a manicure.

if you are a guy cut so you can barely see a line of white. dont go too low or it will HURT!however if it is too long it will look sooo nasty.just plain short trimmed nails are fine for a guy. dont make it look like you spend over ten minutes on your nails or go to a salon ...that would be weird.hope this helps!

Prevention is the best cure. Next time you clean your shoes wear kitchen gloves.

But today get a nailbrush and some soap out and scrub away!
Turpentine should do. Next time, before you start a job that would get you some dirt under your nails, scratch a soap bar with your nails and fill the space between skin and nails with soap. At the end of the job rinse off the soap and your nails will be nice and clean.

it could be a lack of calcium. but for me it is usually caused by bruising the nails, like if your fingers get slammed in the door or something too.
It is actually from a lack of calcium in your diet. It is also what makes our nails more brittle.
I'm no MD but I've always heard it is lack of zinc.

Drinking lots of milk. Lack of calcium can make them brittle. Also, there is nail strengthening polish you can use, and hand and nail cream to keep them smooth and supple.
There is a supplement called GreenZymes my mom gave to me that has helped her and my nephews. It has also helped my own nails grow faster and stronger.
Your nails are weak because you are not getting enough calcium. Buy some vitamins or start eating right. You can also purchase nail harder which works great....its cheap.....1.00 to 6.00.
go to the pharmacy and by 'Hard as Nails' by Sally Hansen, or Nailtec would work too. Apply once a day to clean nails. Nail vitamins are also a good idea,.

I've had a few for years and no one has ever noticed them or said anything they really aren't that unattractiveHow do you get rid of the little white spots on your finger nails?
These are actually injuries to the nail bed (the ';crescent'; are where the nails emerge). As the nail grows, the white spots move up, until they are at the dead area %26amp; can be clipped off.

If the nail bed is injured deeply enough, the nail will grow out grooved for the rest of your life.

You can paint your nails to cover them for a temporary solution, or just wait for it to ';grow away';.

From what i know, it's caused by extra calcium in your body... they won't just disappear after there already visible in your fingernail. Simply decrease your intake of calcium for a little while.. then you shouldn't get anymore little white marks. Just let the spots you have now grow out, and cut your nails.

    hope this helped !

drink milk, its a calcium build up!!

If you clip them from the base and don't break them it should be ok.Does it hurt cutting your finger nails when they are really long?
No, it shouldn't hurt at all unless you aren't focusing and accidentally hurt yourself. haha, just kidding, don't worry, it should be painless. If you're still scared you could try filing them down a bit so it's easier (and less scary perrhaps?) for you.
I think when they get supper long the sorta have like grown into you skin, so you can only cut them a bit or something
If you clip them, NO, But if by accident they get ripped it will hurt very very badly. keep the nails short and avoid problems
nope not at all. At least not for me anyway.
    no
Kind of...but I always thought that was either because my nails were too hard...

You're probably slightly anemic. Try getting more iron in your diet. You might want to see your doctor to get a blood test and recommendations.

Well, if you didn't take it off as soon as it was on there chances are you have to just keep washing your hands and let it fade on its own. You could try lemon juice, or let your hands soak with cuticle cream and this might help as well.

What's the best way to strengthen my finger nails?

They get brittle then chip and split. What's the best way to strengthen my finger nails?
Always moisturize your hands after washing, and try to avoid hash soaps.

Use plenty of cuticle oil daily and you should really notice an improvement. The best nail and cuticle oil will contain Jojoba oil and Vitamin E as two of the main ingredients.

Nail polish contains solvent that allow it to dry and give nails it's inherrant 'shine' and toughness. These same solvents can be very drying to nails, and can actually contribute to the problem.

Also avoid having your hands in water for long periods of time (so use gloves when doing the dishes).

I've also heard very nice things about Nailtique, so you should also benefit from that too.

If you can get past the strong garlic odor, it's definitely worth using garlic oil... you could get from the Vitamin World store... It comes in a capsule form, like Vitamin E does, so the capsule has to be broken... I use it about 3 times a week. Just break open about 4 capsules, massage into nail and cuticle and put in a pair of latex gloves for about 20-30 min. just wash hands with soap and water, the smell does wash away.... hope you have as much luck with this as I have had

Good LuckWhat's the best way to strengthen my finger nails?

Mine used to break and chip all the time, but there's this nail polish, NailTek... it's a base coat and top coat that you use when you paint your nails. It's amazing. A little pricey but it's totally worth it. I don't know about all the ';jello'; stuff, but I love this stuff... all my friends swear by it.
jello makes your nails grow faster not stronger get hard as nails its just a clear nail color it can be any nail strengthner and keep them short opi makes a really good nail treatment too
    Knox geletin
Eat more jello, %26amp; use less chemicals on them.
I have the same problem. You need to use a buffer and file the tops and I use cuticle oil so they don't look so dry. If you use a nailpolish use one with strength formula perfirbly sally hansen...and manicures arent that great for them either, it will leave ur nails a yellow tint. Also, your diet plays a role in ur nails 2! omega 3s like fish and nuts are good for nails and will make them stronger and healthier.. as well as ur hair
i dont know about jello but i was told to use garlic my nails would get brittle then chip and split go to the store and buy some freah garlic pill it rub it on the tips of your nails try to stick you finger nail in the gaglic so it gets under the nail leave it on about 5 min and wash it off i did this about 7 times my nails are very strong now and grow very fast it works lol i looked at the person who told me this like they were crazy but it realy works
    Jello
    Knox gelatin........definitely great for nails.
get finger nail strenthener @ a cvs or drug store
You can try this. Rub slowly and carefully Lemon on your fingers and nail before going to bed. Lemon will work as a cleansing agent and also it will give vitamin C that is require for strong nails.
To strengthen your finger nails eat a fresh carrot twice a day after one week you can see a difference in your nails. It's promise.

Does anybody know why abdominal complaints may lead to a poor capillary refill in the finger nails?

Also why may stiffness of fingers also be present with the same complaintDoes anybody know why abdominal complaints may lead to a poor capillary refill in the finger nails?
it seems that internal bleeding is possible, when there are symptoms such as these.

Cartillage and ligaments are superimposed with blood. And the abdominal area could be where the internal jettison is present.

It seems that the nail bed is not engorged enough with blood to sustain proper finger nail growth. Blood also is needed to supply muscle activity and cellular aggrandization, this pertains to the arthritic symptoms in the fingers.Does anybody know why abdominal complaints may lead to a poor capillary refill in the finger nails?
Pressure on the abdominal Aorta from the small intestine.I have the opposite with my finger nails but have the stiffness in my fingers and the same as you with my toes. The stiffness i put down to acid in the blood

  • Why do people get white spots on their finger nails?

i have heard many reasons for it but i don't know if any of them are true. so does any one know the real reason?

oh and is there any way to get rid of them besides waiting for your fingernail to grow out?Why do people get white spots on their finger nails?
I have been told it is from some kind of minor injury to the nailWhy do people get white spots on their finger nails?
Lack of Zinc in your diet...

Along with calcium and iron, zinc is probably the most important mineral to the human body. A zinc deficiency can cause everything from acne to diabetes as zinc makes the insulin (the hormone that regulates glucose levels in the blood), eliminates harmful toxins, and maintains a healthy immune system.

Try taking supplements or eat more foods rich in zinc like meat (lamb in particular), oats, eggs, nuts and oysters.
    heres a little folk tale,

they say if you tell a lie those white spots will pop up,

but knowing me all my nails should be completely white,

but yeah its just a minor injury to the nail,

no need to get scared or anything.
This usually indicates a zinc deficiency.

Can i get a french manicure at the salon without long finger nails?

i have had acrylic nails for about 5 years straight. so im trying to stop that. since my nails are so thin and breaking constantly can i still get the french manicure painted on? Some nails are longer than others and actually have length. Can i get a french manicure at the salon without long finger nails?
Sure! But hopefully there not MAJOR short. cause one time i cut mine real short before i went %26amp; it made it sorta hard for the lady to do.Can i get a french manicure at the salon without long finger nails?
of course. just tell them you want them painted! not a full set!
    yes
    yes you can :)
Yes, but the white tip of the manicure will be thin. They might file your nails so they are all the same length as the shortest one too.

Natural remedies for strengthening finger nails?

I'm searching for some natural remedies for strengthening my finger nails. I've tried the fingernail polish that you apply daily and I HATE it!! It smells awful (even stronger than regular nail polish) and as soon as I put it on, the next day it's chipping off! It seems to be making the problem worse! I have no problem growing my nails, they actually grow VERY long. But they chip on the tips and they are thin. I'm wondering what natural remedies some of you might have tried that have worked well. Please, do tell!!! :)Natural remedies for strengthening finger nails?
    Unflavored gelatin. Similar to Jello.

    Eat it daily.

Keep hands moist with a good lotion.

Use Sally Hansens Hard as Nails.

it works for me.Natural remedies for strengthening finger nails?
Its to do with what you eat and drink. Increase your intake of water and eat raw baby carrot, cucumbers, and eat more eggs cooked anyway. Also you can soak your nails in a mixture of milk and raw eggs. that should help.
I heard that certain oils helps you to have strong nails, my classmate from India told me this. She rubs oil on here nails and they are long and strong.

Is there something I could eat/drink/take to make my finger nails grow faster?

When I was a few years younger I used to bite my nails constantly. But now that I'm older I want my nails to be long and pretty. So is there anything that I could eat/drink/take to make them grow faster. Cause it seems like they never grow.Is there something I could eat/drink/take to make my finger nails grow faster?
Take up swimming and go often but file them to shape so then they don't break off and do this process alot

    or

get a bowl of water and sit with your hands in them

    or

paint your nails and then you won't bite them (that usually works for me)

    or

use a nail growth enhancer to keep your nails strong and get them to grow.

XIs there something I could eat/drink/take to make my finger nails grow faster?
milk will give you extra calcium and help all your bones (nails are a type of bone incase you didn't know)
Biotin will help your nails grown stronger and faster. It's also very good for your hair.

Biotin used to be called Vitamin H but is most known as B7.
    jello

    or

    gelatin

    ( =
they do grow it just is hard to notice. You can eat jello to make the stronger and grow. Just make some jello and start eating! you can also buy a clear coat of polish that is a growth enhancer and it will help your nails grow

    Hope i helped;)
i dont think so, but there is this sally hansen nail stuff that makes it grow faster. you can find it at fred meyers
    Milk
The only things I would recommend would be a general multivitamin, or possibly biotin supplements. Also, make sure that you use hand lotion regularly, to keep your nails and cuticles moisturized. The healthier and more moisturized your cuticles are, the healthier your nail growth will be.
I think they grow faster when they're in water a lot, but I'm not sure... that's just what it seemed whenever I go swimming.

How to stop biting finger nails?

My sister in law, Sasha is 14 now and she still bites her fingernails. I have been trying to help her because she wants to stop. Help anyone? Ideas? How to stop biting finger nails?
Maybe it would help if she started chewing gum constantly. Then there would already be something in her mouth. That, or put a dab of fingernail polish remover on the tips of her fingernails. That'll taste gross when she goes to bite them. Good luck! :)How to stop biting finger nails?
The old fashioned way is tape lol. She could also use fake fingernails. But there is a dog spray for dogs the bite their selves and it tastes horrible yet is edible. It's the worst taste and makes you queasy. After putting that in her mouth she won't ever want to put anything but food in her mouth lol. The flavor i suggest is SOUR APPLE, sounds good but isn't!
I heard that nail polish helps because it tastes bad when bitten off.
鈾ip it in Dog doo doo
They make this ';Biter's Nail Polish';.. You paint it on, its clear.. and it taste bitter. If that doesn't help.. make sure she knows that she can get worms from biting her nails. The dirt under her nails can contain bacteria or even parastic worms.
The way that i stoped biting ma nails was by putting nail Polish remover on my nails and so every time i went down 2 bite it tasted nasty....or every time u wanted 2 bite u nails eat sum nuts(the food) that way u don't even want 2bite u nails any more
    tape,sour apple,alcohol

    I tried them all

I hear they work but I still bite them

even with crap on them thats really bitter

now I regret ever biting them

    =/

I really wish i knew cause i am 14 and i cant stop either

What are these white spots on my finger nails?

what are they and how do I get rid of them? What are these white spots on my finger nails?
They are calcium deposits... fix them by drinking more milk and calcuim chewables

    here's a link

They can also be bruises on your nail bed,,, fix them by being carful to not hurt your fingersWhat are these white spots on my finger nails?
Those are calcium deposits ...or at least that is what my moms told me a long time ago when I asked that question
keratin (the stuff your hair and nails are made of) is so tightly packed in your fingernails and so perfectly aligned that your nails are clear. when your nail gets bumped a small amount of keratin is moved and produces a spot of opacity
I think they are either calcium deposits or it's a lack of drinking water :( I don't know... I have a couple too! We should start a cool ';White Spot Nail Group'; I want to be the 2nd lieutenant. Kthanks.
they are called moons well in my family for sure im not sure if thats the official name though. DUH
While there are many reasons for these white spots (called leukonychia), most of them are due to mild trauma -- such as hitting or slamming your fingernail on or into something -- and there's usually little cause for worry. The good news is they'll simply grow out with time.

Because a normal fingernail takes about eight months to grow out completely, you may not notice the mark of an injury for several months after the fact. If you see white spots about halfway up the nail, you can assume that the insult took place approximately four months earlier. But if you can' t remember slamming that finger keep in mind there are other causes for white spots.

If you use nail enamels, nail hardeners, or artificial nails, it's also possible that you're having an allergic reaction. Such products can cause nail fragility and very fine splitting or layering of the nail plate, which may result in whitish spots.

The white spots may also be something that you picked up at the gym or during your monthly manicure, namely a fungal, yeast, or bacterial infection that attacks the substance of the nail directly, leaving a whitish streak or spot behind. If you've forgotten to wear your flip-flops at the gym or if you're unsure about the hygiene at your nail salon, ask your doctor to take scrapings of nail tissue for fungal and bacterial cultures. If there's a pesky organism causing the spots, both topical and oral therapies can clear up this problem in a few weeks.

Two skin conditions that affect millions of Americans, psoriasis and eczema, could also be the cause. Both can occasionally leave whitish spots on the nails, either by disrupting normal nail production at the root or causing separation at the tip. Because both disorders typically involve the skin as well as the nails, they're almost always diagnosed as a result of the accompanying skin problems, so if you've got the spots alone, it's unlikely you've got psoriasis or eczema.

Finally, there are a number of total-body (';systemic';) conditions that can leave white spots on your otherwise unblemished talons. Certain nutritional deficiencies, particularly a lack of zinc or protein in your diet, can cause a nearly total whiteout of your nail except for the tips or even a pattern of white bands across the width of the nail. Cirrhosis, a form of chronic liver disease usually brought about by alcoholism, can also result in nails that are almost completely white. Keep in mind, though, that white spots in that case are rarely the primary flag for diagnosis but usually occur well after this disease has made its presence known in other ways.

Given the number of conditions that can cause white spots, if you have a sudden crop of them on your nails (and you haven't caught your digits in the car door during the last six months), make an appointment to see your dermatologist.
bruises to your nailbed is the most common case, it can be caused by other things, such as zinc deficiency, but that's rather rare

  • What can you do to grow your finger nails quickly?

my toe nails grow out beautifully. But for some reason my finger nails don't. I really would like my finger nails to grow out and get a shape. It usually grows just a little with a roundish shape, which looks ugly. What's your advice? It's most likely because I used to bite on my nails when I was stressed....but I've stopped doing that for years now, and it's still not growing. What do I do?What can you do to grow your finger nails quickly?
I have just started regularly getting manicures. I have found that having them painted professionally makes me be very cautious with them. Because I am being careful with them (I don't want to chip the polish) they are growing so fast. They have never looked better!

Why would pink nail polish turn my finger nails orangery yellow?

I used pink nail polish last Thursday and I took it off with nail polish remover and my nails are coloured yellowy orange what caused this to happen. How can I turn my nails back to normal colour???Why would pink nail polish turn my finger nails orangery yellow?
the clolour of the pink nail varnish made your nails go a bit yellow. Itll fade soon. It happened to me as well!!! Next time put on a clear base coat to protect your nails. The varnish will last longer AND they wont go yellowish.

The colour will fade...don't worryWhy would pink nail polish turn my finger nails orangery yellow?
You most likely didn't put on a protective base coat! Without one, the nailpolish stains your nails. Just keep reapplying the nail polish remover. If you DID apply a base coat then most likely you either have cheap (lame) nail polish or a cheap remover.

or just wait a few days.

    x
i'm not 100% sure as to what causes them to do that, but they go back to normal after like 2-4 days for me.

Just remember to put the protective layer of clear nailpolish on first and that shouldn't happen.
just because there is so much pigment in that colour, it usually happens with reds too, soak them in lemon juice, i think that works.and use a base coat from now on.
they use all types of colours to make a specifice colour so the yellow tint has addeared to your nail. yeah use a basecoat to act as a barrier against staining.

    x
because you're not using a base coat before you put on your nail polish. the base coat is what prevents nail polish from staining your nail. =(
this never happens to me, but always happens to my friend

and I wear a lot of nail varnish..

just clean them and they go back to normal :]
    cheap nail polish:/ lmao

Is it okay to clip guinea pig's nails with regular finger nail clippers?

My piggie has long toe nails and I was wondering since I don't have one of those special small animal nail clippers if I could just use my own nail clippers (the one meant for humans)

    Would it hurt her?

Will it split the nail?Is it okay to clip guinea pig's nails with regular finger nail clippers?
Absolutely! The smaller type of clippers work great!! I have been doing this for a while now with my guinea pig. It definitely will not hurt her, nor will it split the nail. You do have to be careful though that you don't clip them back too far. The end of the nail closest to the foot will be pink. This is because there is blood flowing in there. I have cut my guinea pigs toenails back too far before. If this happens immediately get a cold wet cloth and let her stand on it. She should be fine after a few minutes with minimal bleeding. Good luck!!Is it okay to clip guinea pig's nails with regular finger nail clippers?
yeh the human nail clippers are almost better than the ones bought for small animals in my experience. I use the human ones on all of my guinea pigs and they work very well. Just make sure not to cut too short as this will cut into the quick and cause the nail to bleed which is very painful for the piggy and this may result in your pig loosing trust in you.
I use human toe nail clippers on all 6 of my pigs and it works great-just watch out for the quick and don't cut too short-if your pigs nails are really long then the quick is most likely long as well. You'll want to start out by cutting a little off this week and then again in another week, each time you cut the quick recedes. Take a look at this link!

    Yea they work!
the work really well, ou can use them :)

What's the reason for the finger-nails to grow faster?

Off late my finger nails are growing at double the rate at which they used to grow before!

Is it a matter of concern? What's the reason for the finger-nails to grow faster?
Eating right makes your nails grow. And milk makes them thick and strongWhat's the reason for the finger-nails to grow faster?
Maybe your whole body is growing faster. Or your eating something thats really good for your bones.
Check your Biotin and Zinc levels
it is not a matter of concern. when it's hotter outside your nails grow faster. you're lucky, my nails don't grow fast at all.
no its not a cause for concern. you are just a healthy person. and healthy foods do contribute to healthy nail growth too so don't worry. don't stop what you are doing just because your nails are growing faster you'll just have to keep them trimmed more often that's all
Yes, definately, you may have a rare plural infusion, which can early result in rapid fingernail growth, and left untrated death!

Is there a certain personality type that is more likely to bit their finger nails?

I bit my nails (I know that its gross) but I have noticed that people who have certain personality traits in common with me also bit their nails. Is there an explanation or is it just a coincidence? Is there a certain personality type that is more likely to bit their finger nails?
the stress in our lives makes us do things like this.i have seem people that sits and bits their nails because of this kind of stress and this happens with our daily things we go through like job, home, our spiritual lives as well.

it makes us find our selves in a deep thinking pattern and we need something to get us something to do with our hands so we bit our nails.

it then becomes a habit after that.

some people bit their nails and other smoke and others eat.

it's just habit. Is there a certain personality type that is more likely to bit their finger nails?
i read once that selffish people are more prone to biting their fingernails
i would assume the nervous type of people bite their nails - guess it beats smoking!
I think people do it when they are nervous and under stress. I have noticed myself doing it under both situations
It's usually associated with people with anxiety. Also, sometimes people with oral fixations. Usually it's behavior of people who have problems expressing themselves to the outside world.
Dont bite your nails there is bugs under you nails. thats why i stopped 20 some years ago. There was no special reason why i did it i just did. now i dont, and i have nice nails n they r real.

I have a really bad habit of biting my finger nails, how can I stop this?

I have been biting my nails for as long as I can remember and I do it without even realizing I'm chewing on them, I'm getting married in August and don't wanna have uhgo nails, especially for our wedding rings picture. I need to know how I can stop doing this? Fake nails do not work, I just pick at them until they come off.I have a really bad habit of biting my finger nails, how can I stop this?
Try going for weekly manicures, your nails will be too pretty to bite/chew/pick at.

Keep your hands busy while watching tv, l or better yet, put a thick heavy cream on your hands and cover with cotton gloves, your hands will be silky smooth.

If you like take up knitting or stiching, something that will keep your hands busy.

Be careful with fake nails, if any moisture gets between your natural nail and the artificial nail, you are at risk of a nail infection/fungus. Natural nails are the best.I have a really bad habit of biting my finger nails, how can I stop this?
I do the same..i know it's hard to break the habit. First paint your nails. This still may not stop you so if you are doing something like watching a movie that doesnt involve moving try sitting on your hand or keeping them folded in your lap and everytime you think of reaching them up to bite you should remember by the polish to put them back down.
Identify exactly when it is you start chewing your nails. Is it when you are at home, work, or school? Is it when you are sitting and hanging out or watching TV? Understand what might trigger mild anxiety for you and find a substitute for this behavior (such as bringing a glass of water to your mouth instead when you feel the urge to chew, or carrot sticks, whatever).

Wouldn't hurt to go for a mini manicure at a salon to encourage you to take better care of your hands.

I bet if you let your nails grow a little naturally and kept them neatly filed, you would have nice looking hands.
cut your nails regularly or apply chilly paste on your nails
keep your hands busy with kniting or paint your nails.
Try keeping nail polish on your nails. You might pick at them at first, but hopefully that will deter you for awhile. There is also a nail polish type stuff that you can paint on your nails that tastes bad, to prevent you from biting you nails. You can try that.
I did that when I was little and my mom got this really gross tasting yet pretty nail polish stuff. It completely cut the habit. Another way to stop it is to cut your nails really short so you can't get at them to bite.

    Congrats on the wedding!
put nail polish remover on your nails. It tastes really gross and you'll relize your biting your nails.

    Here's an old trick;

Mix a drop of tobasco sauce in clear nail strengthening polish and wear that. It burns your mouth ';gently'; and will prevent the biting, plus strengthen them from all the biting you've done.

Wear it for 21 days, that's how long it takes to break a habit.
Dip your finget tips in vinegar or something gross.. that way every time u try to bite them you will taste that gross taste
We'll. . . . I guess you could go to a doctor or something they could give you medicine or i really think you should do this becasue this is what i do: i put all kinds of germ-x or stuff that burns your tounge and makes them feel bad so you won't put them in your mouth i prmise that will work! i hope this helps you or you find your solution!
You can go buy special nail polish that tastes like crap or you can just do it the country way.

You should probably keep your nails painted red so it doesn't show as bad but anyway. You take cayan pepper or paprika (which ever spice just really burns your mouth) and you mix it with vodka and hot sauce or (you can use a little vegetable oil for the vodka if you have to) until it gets a little thicker than nail polish. The thicker you can keep it the better. Use an old nail polish brush that you have washed or even a q-tip and brush the mixture on your fingers. Let it dry really good. Vodka evaporates quicker so it dries faster, thats why more people choose it. It will dry and get hard (think about dishes you leave in the sink too long) and when you bite your nails you will get that burning from the spice. Its not toxic like nail polish and burning lasts for a while so you get the lesson quicker.
    keep your nails painted.

put on at least like 5 coats of nail polish.

with nail polish it'd be kidna gross 2 still bite them.

and wen you take it off or as soon as u see it chipping paint them again

  • How do you cut a 10month old baby's finger nails.?

How would you cut a baby's finger nail without cutting her skin. They are getting quite long and sometimes dirt gets lodged underneath. I want to cut them but I am afraid I will hurt her. I have been peeling off the nail in the bath but now she is so active she wont let me do it anymore. I am new to all this so please no rude answers. How do you cut a 10month old baby's finger nails.?

Feed her a nice warm bottle (or nurse) and then use baby nail scissors shortly after she falls asleep. If she's awake, then give her a small, very interesting object to hold in the other hand. If you use baby clippers then you won't give her more than a tiny nick if anything. It is scary the 1st few times but you'll get more confident as you practice. Just do it matter-of-factly and she won't be scare, either. Good luck!

How do you cut a 10month old baby's finger nails.?
I usually do my 8 month olds when shes awake , but its much easier to do them when shes asleep. If your baby is awake just make sure you have a good hold on her so she doesn't move and if she does move you can kinda tell shes about to squirm.

You could try to sing to her or talk to her to distract her that usually works .I've never bit my babies nail off lol so Im not going to suggest that ,and Im actually scared of the baby scissors ,I prefer the nail clipper.
10 months??? or 10 weeks. any way.. i have a 6 month old and from day one i have used a baby scissors ( meant for cutting nails) i have never been able to use a nail clippers it scares me. but the scissors works wonderfully. you can see what your cutting and dont have to worry about getting the skin.. but the key is to do it while they are asleep. that way they are not moving around and you wont slip and cut them.. goodluck. ( im just surprised about the 10 months and that you made it that long without having to trim them.)
I bite them too. Believe me it's the best way. Just be careful when you do it not to leave any sharp bit on the edges otherwise she will scratch herself. It's strange I actually found out that if I don't cut them they will go soft and she won't hurt herself but everytime I cut them with scissors since they were shorter and harder she scratched her face all over. Anyway biting when baby is asleep is the best way.
do it when she's sleeping or you could distract her. cutting my sons nails is never fun and most of the time dad does it, but on those days when i do it, i usually get him a book and distract while i hurry and do it. it usually ends up being in stages so i'll cut a few in the morning a few in the afternoon and the following day until they are all gone.
The best time to do it is when they are sleeping. I know this sounds kinda gross but I use to bite the kids nails when they were that little lol. I did exactly what you are scared of once and her little finger bled like crazy. I never used baby nail clippers again.
I find it's best, my daughter's only 5 months old... But using the nail scissors not the clippers and doing it while she's asleep. The tough part is getting my daughter's toe nails. Her feet are so ticklish that any little touch she curls up her toes!!
the best way i found to do it was to bit them because my lil baby boy dont hold still for 2 sec soo i was always scared to use clipers because there so sharp so try bitting them it works best after a bath the nails are so much softer
I have to do my son's when he is asleep - and like dead asleep in the middle of the night LOL. That's the only way - although the biting someone else mentioned might work too when she's awake. They usually like it when Mommy nibbles their fingers. Good luck!
Baby clippers when she's asleep or use a fine nail file. It doesn't take long to file them down %26amp; then you'll have no worries about cutting her. But you have to be careful to not file them too low.
I wait til my son is asleep to give him his min manicure. I gently pull the skin away from the nail and use safety clippers (link below) to keep from nipping his skin.
As someone else said, bite them while she is sleeping, just make sure only the nail is between your teeth, which is pretty easy to do
I also used to bite my sons nails while he was sleeping, he wouldnt let me do it any other time, he was just too active!
wait until she's asleep. I cut my sons finger once with clippers but he barely noticed and went pack to sleeping. I know its so rough but it'll get easier.
I used safety baby clippers while mine was sleeping. I couldn't keep mine still when he was awake!
remove them with ur teeth. Bite them. Do that after giving a baby bath. Nails would be softer %26amp; easy to bite.
Use a pair of manicure scissors and do it while she is sleeping.
bite them or pick them yourself when she is feeding or sleeping...
bite them when she is sleeping.
    wait till she is sleeping!
ive always bitten my babies finger nails while sleeping.. its just so much easier and safer

    Your nails turned yellow because the varnish color stained them. Use a clear base coat on them before applying the color and you should be fine. As to make it go away, just let it grow out. Don't try to buff your nail because this weakens it. Good luck :}

ps. next time, buy a good brand of nail polish if this one isn't that good and a good base coat.

OPI, Essie, Orly, MAC, etc are good and don't test on animals.

Sally Hansen, Covergirl, etc are bad AND they test on animals :(
