Ya know those white spots you get on your finger nails? What are they and why are they there?

Please only answer if you have a legit response. No urban legends!Ya know those white spots you get on your finger nails? What are they and why are they there?
people usually think that its caused by lack of calcium, but that's actually not the case.

they're caused by some kind of stress done to the fingernail, like dropping something heavy on it.

the whole ';lack of calcium'; thing has proved to be a MYTH

so, i know a ton of people will answer saying that, but it's actually not true.

just read this from cosmo:Ya know those white spots you get on your finger nails? What are they and why are they there?
They're caused by damage to the nail, general the nail bed and cuticles. I hate them because the only way to get rid of them is to grow them out. They're only discolorations to the nail though so they're not harmfull.
I get them once in a while. I think its calcium deficiency but the best person to talk to is your GP
