When did you paint your daughters finger nails or toe nails for the first time?

I don't think children should wear makeup or jewelry or care about nails and clothes but I do encourage play and dress up! My daughter loves to wear mommy's shoes and she is learning to dress/undress herself! When did you paint your daughters nails for the first time? When did you paint your daughters finger nails or toe nails for the first time?
Their toes, when they were first born..lol

I was having a hard time telling them apart for the first bit, so i painted their toes,Summer was green and Kristine was orange..When did you paint your daughters finger nails or toe nails for the first time?
I have painted my daughters nails since she was only a few months old! (Oh how I miss those cute lil painted piggy's, l0l, she's 7 now) I do agree with you on not putting these thoughts of vanity in their heads any sooner than they will already face them though, so I don't make it a habitual thing, just something fun for 'girl' bonding time in our house. Same thing with dress-up and make-up, only I don't let her go out with make-up on.

I think wanting to dress up like mommy is natural and healthy for any young girl, and it's our responsibility as parents to monitor the fun and make sure that it isn't forced (as with pageants) and that too big of a deal isn't made about it. Girls have enough image issues these days with images of unrealistic women being thrown at them from every angle.
Probably around 18 months old. Even then I was very careful to only dab a little on her nail - not let it touch her skin. I was afraid it would be too harsh on a kid's delicate skin, even though I have seen plenty of babies with their nails painted.

I stopped worrying so much about letting the polish come in contact with her skin around when she turned 3. That's when the makeovers really got fun. Except one day when I fell asleep and she decided to put pretty nail polish on my lips. - very painful way to wake up!

By the way, how old is your daughter? :) I remember mine started putting on my shoes around when she turned 1. lol, she kept almost falling but had a big proud smile on her face as she caught her balance and scooted her feet across the room.
When she was like 1 I painted her toes and finger nails. She is now 2 1/2 and she loves having her nails painted. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Painting your nails is a lot different than wearing make-up. So I don't see any comparison. Because I do agree with you that children should not wear make-up. But nail polish is fine with me, as is jewelry if my daughter wants to wear it (once she hits school age and depending what kind of jewelry it is)
I did it when they asked for it - which was probably about aged 3 or 4. The thing is though that if you have an older one and a younger one, especially if they're both girls, then even if you wait until the older one is about 6, the younger one will almost always want to have it done too, so she inevitably gets to have hers done younger.

I've never been particularly into make-up and things on little children either, but with my girls, it has tended to be a phase - aged about 3-7 they loved it, now they're older (10 and 12) they're not interested, but I'm sure with my 12 yr old especially, she'll be back into it all again in the next year or two.
The only thing with which I painted my daughters nails was a nail biting liquid.

Like you, I believed that all children should be free to rough and tumble while they are kids; childhood lasts such a short time - a few years of freedom before they have the next 60 worrying about a chipped nail or a hair out of place.
I wouldn't let my mom anywhere near me with nail polish until I needed help getting ready for 10th grade homecoming. :P But we had people come paint nails at my elementary school graduation party and all the little girls seemed to love it. What's the harm, every now and then?
When my daughter was 2 (3 weeks ago) I first did, I never much cared for makeup or anything myself, but thought to try it out. She looks so cute with it on, so I've continued with putting it on her. She particularly likes blue, orange and green...
I have 2 boys....I hope to paint lil nails one day w/ a daughter....anyways...!

I have 3 nieces %26amp; when they were just little babies maybe(just toddling...a year old or less)?!?! %26amp; I would paint their toe nails %26amp; nails....they loved it %26amp; I loved spending that time being girly with the girls!

Just as long as u make sure the nails r dry before they start to try %26amp; lick it off their nails(my niece did that once)yikes!!!! But she was ok!!!!!
I believe that we painted the first time at age 1. but now, All the time! I just make sure to have ';kid friendly'; paint. But I have an older 8 year old girl, and a 2 year old girl. Make up and hair, and nails are a MUST in my family. Even daddy gets into it!
I did it on Tuesday for the first time, she is 3 years old. I just did it for fun since I was about to do mine, thought it could be a fun mummy/daughter thing since most of my attention goes to the new baby now.
i did my daughters toes when she was a few months old. it was so cute. and i enjoyed doing it. very easy to when she's asleep. she's 2 1/2 now and still loves having her nails done.
I have a boy, but I always thought it would be fun to paint toenails as soon as they're old enough to say, ';wow!'; It would only be an occasional thing for me though. Like once every two-three months or something.
my 3 year old niece loves to do all that.. she loves to paint her toes and hands Too.. except we don't let her wear make-up yet till she's older my sister started painting her nails when she turned 2.
When she was around 2 years old. But I use transparent nail polish with glitter so it's almost invisible
Our 4yo has polished her nails a few times just for the fun of it.
