2/3 of my finger nails are very badly damaged, beyond repair. Its not a fungal infection so I can't get any cream for it.

Yes, it is possible, but it's painful.
I had 3 fingernails removed after getting them smashed on a car door. They gerw out in about 3 weeks, to full. You coudl always ask your doctor about it, but yes, it is possible.
