What is the easiest way to cut a babies finger nails?

I have baby nail cutters. But every time I try to cut them she is very squirmy. Do I wait until she is very drowsy? What is the easiest way to cut a babies finger nails?
Don't cut them at all!!!

Use an emery board (they even have baby versions) and file her nails down.. it accomplishes a few things:

1. Makes the nails shorter than what you can do by biting OR cutting.

2. Is cleaner then bitting.. eww

3. you can't cut the baby

4. the nails are smooth and dont scratch the baby (even when you cut a babies nails they get jagged edges)

5. They can squirm all they want.. it doesnt effect getting the job done! What is the easiest way to cut a babies finger nails?
While they're breastfeeding :)
Honestly, this might be this easy way out,but I don't cut my son's nails.I usually bring him to my moms %26amp; let her do it.I cut this little girls at daycare once %26amp; I havent cut another baby's nails since then.I've always heard to do it when they are asleep or just to bite them off..Good luck..
When my children were born my husband was told to bite them off himself which he did as my mother did for me, don't know how hygienic it really is though?
I use cuticle scissors while my son is sleeping. at least that way you know where your cutting and its never going to be too short.
bite em
My son won't let me trim his nails while he's awake. So, I wait for him to fall asleep for his nap and do it while he's resting! Also, I'm afraid to use cutters (the safety scissors OR the clippers) because I don't want to cut them too close to the nail bed, so I just use baby files and file them down once a week. It takes a little longer than just clipping them, but they always end up smooth and I never have to worry about going too short. You can find the baby emery boards in any baby nail kit or first aid kit. I think I got mine at Target. They're super fine and small in size as well! Perfect for baby-sized hands. Here's a great site I found that has some more suggestions and advice for trimming baby's nails:

I thought it was a great site with some great ideas. I hope you'll find it useful! Good luck! Take care!
Actually, with mine, I used baby nail clippers and waited until they were all asleep.. good luck and I hope this helps..
I always had better luck when they were asleep. Try feeding her, so her tummy is nice and full, and then when she is in a deep sleep you should be able to ';snip away';! =)

Good luck to ya!
I hear that even using baby nail clipper you can damage the delicate quick that is growing the nail at the end. Biting off the nail is gross , I have done it tho .

Filing is the safest way to get them off , you just have to be gentel not to twist babies fingers while your doing any one of the methods. Good luck , go slow
while the baby is breastfeeding or sleeping or preferably both. i never used cutters, after cutting my son's thumb nail and it gushed blood. yuck. i would just file them with a regular nail file.
do it while shes sleeping
bite them yourself
I use cuticle scissors. I have done it when the baby is distracted by another person and when asleep. If you do it after they take a bath, the nails are much softer and easier to cut.
This may sound werid, but I bit off my babies finger nails it is safer then baby nail clippers. I had 3 children and it worked for them. friend has 5 and she done the same. in fact all the mommies I know did the same.
honestly...when they were babies i never used clippers....i would bite and peel my daughters' nails....i was always afraid i would clip their finger....
Unless you are having good luck with the baby nail cutters, you may want to try cuticle scissors--we find they are more manageable, and that helps with speed. Grasp the tip of the finger between your thumb and forefinger (pinching it) with the hand you won't be using to hold the scissors. Sleepy is good if it does not wake her. If she gets hypnotized by a video, you can try that.
yeah it is hard you kind of have to grab there arm under yours to hold it still and just go nuts you have probably 5 seconds to cut all the nails, you ahve to work fast. nail clippers are easier for me, but i know my sister used to bite her kids nails when they were babies. just try scissor (baby nail scissors) clippers and biting and see what works better for you.
Well when my sister was pregnant someone at her baby shower have her these hand mittens for the baby you know the ones that keep them from scrating their faces, and it and a hole that you take out one finger at a time and cut it then.
Depending on the age... when they are asleep was the best time for all my kids. When they got a lil older and didn't stay asleep I would give them something to hold in the one hand while I cut the other hands nails. They do get used to it in time and will just let you do it. But I would do it when they were asleep if they are really tiny.
Wait til the baby is sleeping. Try to get some of the baby nail clippers with the little ball on the end instead of the normal ones that look like an adults nail clipper. The ones with the ball helps you hold onto the clippers tighter without them slipping away and u accidentally nicking the baby. U can get them from Walmart. When the baby is sleeping just push the skin down on each finger and clip the nail.
Put the baby on your lap. Sitting position. Facing the same side you face. Hold her firmly with arms..

Is easy to cut nails this way. As the angle is the same as yours.

Take one hand at a time and hold and cut.

You will find it easier. Needs practice.

Wish you best.
